This Steak Fettuccine Alfredo recipe is a powerful protein boost given to the past dish by the mighty steak ingredient that is obviously the featured star here!

One of the great things about this easy recipe is that you can use whatever kind of steak you like, even though we have our recommended one that we’ll tell you about in a little bit…

And another fantastic fact is that you can make the steak in many ways, but no worries because we’ll guide you through how to make the steak in this recipe. You could even air fry the steak if that’s what you prefer!

As for the fettuccine, you could also replace it with your favorite kind of pasta, but we want to stick to the good old Alfredo companion for this one.

Ingredients

Follow the list below to make sure you have all the ingredients you need for this recipe. The printable recipe card below will have the exact amounts that you’ll need, along with the detailed instructions.

  • Fettuccine pasta – We prefer fettuccine for this steak alfredo recipe, but you could also use penne or orechiette for it.
  • Steak – You can use any kind of steak you prefer, but we recommend looking for one with good marbling like a New York Strip or flat iron steak. We’d also recommend a porterhouse or ribeye steak, or a filet mignon that is melt-in-your-mouth tender.
  • Butter – Key ingredient to prepare the delicious sauce!
  • Coconut oil – We’ll be making the steak in coconut oil, given its high smoke point. But feel free to make it with butter if you prefer.
  • Heavy whipping cream – Along with butter, this is what makes the alfredo sauce super rich, creamy and silky!
  • Cheese – A combination of freshly grated parmesan and gorgonzola cheese makes the alfredo sauce that much more decadent and pairs great with the flavory sliced steak.
  • Sea salt – For the steak seasoning and because we prefer sea salt over table salt.
  • Black ground pepper – The other seasoning ingredient you really need to season the steak.

Preparation

This is a quick high-level overview of the steps to make this steak fettuccine alfredo recipe, so make sure you take a look at the recipe card below with the specific instruction details.

  1. Season the steaks – Make sure the steaks come to room temperature to ensure they will cook evenly, and then sprinkle and rub salt and pepper on them.
  2. Sear the steaks – Preheat a large pan over medium-high heat. Add coconut oil and/or butter to the pan until melted (if using butter). Add the steaks and sear them, while frequently flipping, until desired doneness. Medium-rare is recommended, at around 135° F when tested with a digital meat thermometer.
  3. Boil the pasta – At the same time the steaks are cooking, boil your dried fettuccine noodles in water. Cook according to package directions.
  4. Prepare the sauce – Add butter, cream, the cheeses, salt and pepper to the pre heated pan or skillet. Cook for about 5 minutes until cheeses are melted and sauce is slightly thickened, while stirring frequently.
  5. Add fettuccine to sauce – Add drained fettuccine to the sauce and toss it coat.
  6. Serve steaks over pasta – Slice the steaks and serve over fettuccine. You could top it with some more parmesan cheese for added flavor.

Get The Doneness Right!

Using a meat probe, test your steaks and put them out of pan or skillet about five degrees below your desired doneness. This is because the meat temperature will rise while resting.

Tips & Recipe Variations

  • Type of steak: We used New York strip for this particular recipe, but any medium-thick (about half an inch) steak that you like should work.
  • Watch the thickness: Make sure your steak is at least half of one inch thick because thinner ones will cook too fast without browning.
  • Steak at room temperature: Allow your steak to get to room temperature about 30 minutes before cooking for best results.
  • Oil switching is allowed: If you don't want to use coconut oil, we recommend you use a high quality avocado oil. You could also skip using oil completely and use butter instead to cook the steaks.

You can serve it with these...

You may serve your steak fettuccine alfredo with one of these, if you're looking for ideas:

  • Air Fryer Broccoli: A healthy and relatively light option for a carb-full and protein boosted dish!
  • Bacon: To add that mouth-watering bacon flavor to it!
  • Garden sald: A nice mix of vegetables could go well with your steak pasta.

Frequently Asked Questions

Expand All:
Can I use anything other than fettuccine?

Sure, but we'd expect you'd be interested in fettuccine pasta since you're already in this recipe post.

An idea would be to use penne or even orechiette if you'd like.

Is the steak thickness important?

Yes! We don't want the steaks to be too thin because they will cook to quickly and won't be as juicy as we want it to be.

Is there a quicker way to make the steaks?

You could do it in parallel to the sauce and pasta with this air fryer steak recipe, where you'd be letting the air fryer do the hard work while you cook other things.

Do I need both cheeses?

We like the mix of freshly grated parmesan and gorgonzola cheese to give the sauce a unique flavor, but you could decide to use only one.

If you are going to use only one we recommend you use parmesan cheese.
