As you may or may not know, Basmati rice is a vey popular long grained rice in the Indian region. This is an extremely aromatic and has a delightful and light nutty flavor to it.
One of the great things of this recipe is that it has the perfect combination of quickness, usefulness and result consistency. All of this combined with the “exotic” component that it’s not just any rice, it’s BASMATI rice! Rice goes with almost anything, and its outcome is always perfectly consistent when made in the Instant Pot.
Ingredients
The ingredients list is very simple. As you can see from the recipe photos, this is rice in its simplest form. However, we added just a little spin to it with an ingredient that you don’t always find in an instant pot basmati rice: coconut oil!
- Indian Basmati Rice – Basmati rice is a long-grain rice that goes perfectly well with almost any main dish, and it’s the heart and soul of this recipe.
- Water – Helps cook the rice. Don’t skip it!
- Sea salt – Helps flavor the rice, as its sole seasoning ingredient. Also, we usually prefer sea salt due to its many benefits.
- Coconut oil – An aid to keep the rice from sticking to the instant pot. It also adds a nice additional flavor and it’s great for cooking at high temperatures, and very healthy as well.
The exact portions of each ingredient and the detailed instructions are detailed on the recipe card below.

Note
- For fluffier rice, rinse or soak the rice before cooking it.
- For softer rice, add ¼ of additional water.
- If your instant pot has a “rice” setting, you can use that instead. It will cook the rice for longer at a lower pressure.
- Gently fluff the cooked rice with a fork or wooden spoon. Avoid stirring.
- Do not leave your rice in the instant pot on the “keep warm” setting. It will overcook the rice.
