Honestly, this recipe is so easy to make and you wonโ€™t need any special ingredients either. This chocolate cake recipe is simple and best to try if you are a beginner. All you need is a few basic pantry ingredients to step into the chocolate heaven. This cake is perfect for birthday parties, celebrations and gatherings. Indeed, it is a show stopping cake that everyone will enjoy!

For the Fudgy Chocolate Cake Layers

Prepare the Layers:

  1. Preheat oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC). Grease two 9-inch baking trays and line with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, combine sugar, flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Make a well in center and add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla. Mix until smooth.
  4. In a separate cup, dissolve the coffee in the boiling water.
  5. Slowly pour this hot coffee mixture into the batter while stirring continuously. The batter will be thinโ€”this is normal and ensures the cake stays moist. Pour batter evenly into trays.
  6. Bake for about 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  7. Let cool for at least 10 minutes before removing from trays.

Prepare the Frosting:

  1. Whisk egg yolks with sugar in a saucepan. Add 2/3 cup heavy cream and whisk until combined.
  2. Put the saucepan on medium heat until the egg and cream mixture thicken, donโ€™t boil it. Remove from heat.
  3. Chop the chocolate into small pieces.
  4. Melt chocolate into saucepan and stir until smooth.
  5. In a separate bowl, whip remaining cream and sugar until fluffy. Fold in the chocolate mixture.

Assemble the Cake

  1. Place one cake layer on a serving plate, remove the parchment paper. Spread an even layer of frosting on top.

  2. Add the second cake layer and cover the whole cake with frosting.

  3. Smooth with a spatula and decorate as desired.
